Do you remember in English class in school when the teacher would have you do a "freewrite" for 10 mintues? They would tell you to just write anything and everything that comes to mind without thinking much or editing or making complete thoughts - just to get the ideas flowing.
Then, what comes out of the free-write is often a really great starting point for some real writing.
That was always my very favorite.
Well I was talking to my friend Heidi (the one that made my wedding dress) and I was expressing my frustration with myself and my creative blocks. When I do get a little time to sit down and do a project for myself - I feel such pressure to make the time worthwhile that I want to make the idea so amazing and perfect that I usually get frustrated that I can't get that far and give up. This leaves me with many unfinished projects laying around.
She asked me if I remember free-writing.
She said, what I need to do is take that concept of free-writing and use it on whatever project I want to start. Just design - uninhibited.
It was like an epiphany! OF COURSE that will help.
That is exactly what I needed to hear. Because I seem to waste a lot of my time trying to think the entire project out before I start it and want something mindblowingly amazing to come from it.
Which can't always happen.
Which is discouraging.
Unless I don't have those expectations anymore.
So I'm going to start - with my at home creations - practicing uninhibited design.
Maybe something mindblowingly awesome will come from it anyway??
And if not?
At least I had fun... which is what life is all about anyway.
We had a small intimate wedding and it was perfect.
Anyone who could not be there - we assure you we will celebrate with you the next time we see you!
There were lots of delicious snacks. We also had pizza!
My iPhone was our DJ. People played pool. We danced.
I designed my dress... and my friend Heidi made it for me!!
My friend Ashley made the Rice Krispy Cake! The back-story is that she is the one that set Evan and I up together back in High School. She was asking him to go to a dance with me and she had some rice krispy treats in her possession, leftover from a class - so she said he could have them if he went with me to the dance. He accepted them gladly. Of course - we had to have them at our wedding.
My friend Megan made my beautiful jewelry!
I'll need to wear it again to get some detail shots of it.
We didn't get any good close ups of it that night.
The designers name is Lauren and she lives in Australia.
She custom painted these shoes for me!
Lauren was absolutely amazing to work with from beginning to end and beyond. If you ever want something painted - want something unique - you must talk to Lauren!!!
She will make you very happy and she is THE nicest person ever ever ever ever!
We had people travel so far to see us. They came from Iowa, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio. The total driving time that everyone put in to get here and back home was... over 156 hours! And if you like math, that is 6.5 days of straight driving.
Our family and some of our closest friends all were together in one space and it was just so amazing to see them all together - all here - for US.
It filled my heart to see them all together and all happy and all celebrating love.
We also had a fun photo area! That was the best part, I think.
Overall - it was easily the happiest moment yet of my life. I cannot express how I felt when I was looking into Evan's eyes at the moment it was official and we were married.
I didn't expect to feel different - but I do.
We always knew we'd be together forever, but getting married lets everyone else know it, too.
And here is one in my hand so you have a size comparison:
THEN... while at JoAnn's yesterday near the scrapbook paper section, Evan thought... "What if we made one out of THIS paper?" That paper is 12x12 inches!! To make a ball you need 60 squares of paper. When they're tiny (in the smaller balls the paper was about 1x1 inches) it's not that much paper. But 60 pieces of 12x12 is a LOT of paper. THIS BALL IS GOING TO BE HUGE!!
We're going to use it as a sweet decoration at the wedding :)
Here's ONE of the flowers... just to give you an idea of just how huge this is going to turn out to be:
Ok seriously?! It's huuugeee!!!
Are you ready to see the whole ball - all finished? I don't think you're ready.
Abnormally Massive Kusudama...
That is a full grown cat - not a kitten, folks.
Oh, wanna see it next to those tiny ones again?
Maybe we could go bigger and try for a world record...?
